Partially Fully Changed
Posted
Many
Filipinos are good followers but undisciplined citizens. Due to lack of
discipline, most tend to follow the wrong habits. I usually see these on roads as
I go to school everyday and I can say that commuters are the best example.
Usually, they pay no attention to the road signs. For their convenience, they prefer walking
and crossing on dangerous roads rather than using footbridges. And I know that
many people already tried to stop doing this but some just end up doing the
same again. This won’t end if nobody will take the first move, to change not
partially but fully.
As
I was finding an add at the newspaper for my assignment, I saw an article about
the behavior of Filipinos. I felt connected to this critique by Conrado de
Quiros entitled “About time” so I read it carefully. It was about how a
decision to change can make a big difference in solving problems. However, he
clarifies that it must not end there. He believes that it is not enough wanting
change to happen but people must make it happen. For example, he said that
Filipinos disgust corrupt officials but deep inside, some envy their wealth and
some even ask these official to be sponsors on wedding and baptisms. It becomes
confusing as people want this kind of set up. To sum it up, he declared,
“Corruption itself feeds on a culture that props it up. That is a culture that
tolerates it, or even extols it. … To stop it, you must have a culture that
counters it.” I believe that everyone is powerful. If people are the caused of
the problems, well they could also be the solution. Everything lies in the
hands of each one of us. You are the only one who can dictate yourself, not the
society or even your family.
Maybe
it’s about time to make what you want to happen. All the things that you get
are the results of your decisions. Therefore be careful in growing a plant for
you do not know what fruit it will bear in the end.
